Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has stirred reactions after a video surfaced online showing him displaying his newly acquired mansion in Ibadan, Oyo State, to a group of close friends.

The minister, dressed casually, could be heard pointing out key sections of the white building while engaging his visitors in light conversation.
Some of the supporters were heard saying “incoming governor”, while others asserted that the mansion is better than the official governor’s quarters.
The clip has drawn mixed responses from Nigerians, with some questioning the propriety of such a public display by a serving minister at a time when the country is grappling with prolonged electricity supply challenges.

Adelabu presides over a sector with multi-dimensional challenges of liquidity crisis, inadequate power supply, grid collapse, problematic tariff structures, tariff affordability concerns, and ageing power equipment.
According to him, the federal government owes electricity generation companies legacy debts amounting to N4 trillion as of the end of 2024.
