Michael Asiwaju (also known as Mike Cash or founder of Asiwaju Royal Furniture), a Lagos businessman, died by suicide in January 2019.
He checked into a hotel in FESTAC Town, Lagos, under a false name and ingested a poisonous substance (suspected to be the insecticide Sniper). He left a suicide note on Twitter saying “Goodbye I’ll die soon. (I) am gone.” His body was discovered shortly after.
This followed public accusations on Twitter (now X) by several women, including one known as Princess (TheItunuOye), who alleged he was a serial rapist. These claims went viral, leading to intense online backlash. No formal charges or trial occurred before his death. His family learned of the incident through media reports and expressed shock.
The story has resurfaced periodically on social media, including recently in 2026 discussions.
