Fuel tankers take over Oshodi-Apapa Expressway as fear grow
Fuel tankers have taken over the Oshodi-Mile 2 Expressway at an unprecedented rate, signifying more gridlock on the road.
In April 2024, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu gave tanker drivers, an ultimatum to vacate the road but the drivers disregarded the warning.

It will be recalled that former Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo in June 2019 visited Apapa on a fact-finding mission aimed at ending the gridlock on the road but despite promises, tankers continue to take over the road, causing gridlock.
For the first time, the tankers have taken over the road from Apapa to the Charity Bus Stop, signifying that the tankers will extend to Town Planning before Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Each time the attention of the leadership of the tanker drivers’ union was called to the menace that their members had become, they denied allegations that tanker drivers were responsible for the road blockage.

When The Guardian reached out to the spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Taofik Adebayo, he said he had no knowledge of the situation but he would find out and that the agency would thereafter take action.
