Quilox Club, in collaboration with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), launched a campaign against the circulation of fake drinks in nightclubs.
This was disclosed to the press during a conference at Quilox building, Lagos, as the club marks its 11th anniversary.
Briefing members of the press, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Quilox Club, Akinlabi Peller, stated that the club is committed to promoting the distribution of authentic drinks registered with NAFDAC. He added that, over the past 11 years, the club has consistently upheld the distribution of authentic drinks that are registered with NAFDAC.
He noted that the management of Quilox initiated the campaign to sensitize local club owners about the need to desist from circulating fake drinks, considering the severe repercussions.
His words: “We have always upheld the distribution of genuine, NAFDAC-approved drinks in our establishment, and we are calling on other club owners to adopt similar practices. By working together with NAFDAC, we can clamp down on the circulation of fake drinks and protect public health.
“To ensure our effort is not sabotaged, we paste our own serial numbers on drinks purchased for the club. After consumption, we dispose of the bottles to ensure they are not reused by producers of fake drinks. This is what we want other club owners to emulate, so that we can successfully combat the distribution of fake drinks with NAFDAC.”
Director of Investigation and Enforcement at NAFDAC’s Lagos Directorate, Shaba Mohammed, in his remarks, reiterated that all drinks sold in Nigeria must be registered with NAFDAC before being introduced into the market. He revealed that NAFDAC recently sealed over ten outlets in December for selling fake drinks.
His words; “NAFDAC is very impressed with Quilox. Several times we have made unscheduled visits and left satisfied. As you know, NAFDAC has zero tolerance for unregistered and counterfeit products,” he said.
Acting Director of NAFDAC’s Water & Drinks Division, Olakunle Ojo, added that in December, no fewer than ten outlets had been sealed for selling fake drinks. He also commended Quilox for adhering to NAFDAC’s warnings against the circulation of counterfeit drinks over the years.
He said: “NAFDAC is partnering with Quilox so that together we can fight counterfeiters and ensure our society is free from these harmful products. NAFDAC has zero tolerance for unregistered and fake products. We impose heavy sanctions on any club found selling unregistered products, and we usually seal those clubs.
“NAFDAC cannot do this alone. It must be a collective effort. We need to come together to fight this menace. That is why we urge the public to always inform us if they observe any activity where fake items are produced.”
Also, Managing Director of Quilox, Mr. Olushola Farinloye, noted that the drinks procured by the club were usually acquired directly from the production companies.
