The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, 2018 (FCCPA) 2018 is Nigeria’s principal consumer protection law. It protects buyers from unfair trade practices – including blanket “no refund” policies.
Your right to a refund: Under s.122, you can return goods that are defective, unsafe, or don’t match the description – and get a full refund Your right to cancel: Under s.120, you can cancel an advance booking. Only a reasonable cancellation fee applies – and none at all if you cancel due to death or hospitalisation.
Courts have spoken: In Chukwuma v. Peace Mass Transit, a “no refund” policy on a bus ticket was declared illegal and void.

The company paid N500,000 in damages. What businesses cannot do: Under s.129(1)(b), a seller cannot include terms that waive your right to return defective goods. Full stop.
