Super Eagles Captain, Troost-Ekong Expresses Confidence Ahead Crucial World Cup Qualifiers

Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, are preparing for a crucial double-header against Rwanda and South Africa as the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification race heats up.

Team captain, William Troost-Ekong has expressed strong confidence in the squad’s readiness for these must-win matches.
Speaking to NFF TV ahead of Saturday’s match against Rwanda, Troost-Ekong emphasized the importance of teamwork and fan support. “We’re going to be focused on cooperation because I think that’s the thing that’s going to give us confidence for the game on Saturday,” said the Al-Kholood defender.

The Super Eagles are determined to secure a positive result against Rwanda, a victory that would significantly boost their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

Troost-Ekong also called on fans to rally behind the team in the stadium and through their prayers. “I want to ask them to continue to encourage us, to be in the stadium on Saturday, to be praying for us, everyone else in Nigeria,” he added.

In addition to discussing the upcoming fixtures, the captain praised the team’s new talents, particularly young defender Benjamin Fredrick. Fredrick made a notable impression during the London Unity Cup in May, showcasing his potential on the international stage.

“Benjamin is a humble, hardworking, very talented defender. I think we were all really impressed with what he showed us in the Unity Cup,” Troost-Ekong remarked.

He also acknowledged Moses Simon’s role in supporting Fredrick’s development, noting the young defender’s promising future with the national team. “We have a young, talented player that’s going to be the future of Nigeria as a defender,” he said. “With his talent and hard work, Benjamin is expected to make a significant impact on the Nigerian national team.”

The Super Eagles face Rwanda this Saturday, with a follow-up qualifier against South Africa on September 9, 2025, both matches pivotal on the road to the World Cup.
