The INEC decision to stop dealing with the David Mark-led Working Committee or recognizing the Nafiu Bala Gombe-led faction may have finally confirmed the theory that Nigeria is heading towards a one-party state, says Ajibola Amzat.
“Going by INEC’s announcement yesterday, APC will be the only major political party contesting 2027 election.
ADC, the only potential challenger to the ruling would have been weakened before February 2027, just as PDP has been.
This is dangerous, to put it mildly.
I know politicians and partisan folks will rationalize this decision as INEC following due process.
That is okay.
But I hope you know that this INEC decision does not mean well for our democracy.
And for the stability of Nigeria as a United country.
Nigeria is not designed to be a one -party state.
Our ethno-religious diversity will not allow such invention to take a root.
There are several other forces that will resist this centralization and concentration of authorities and power.
Nigeria is not China.
It’s unlikely it will evolve to becoming a China.
At least not in the foreseeable future.
Our leaders should please revise our history books and learn a lesson, or two.
Nigerians who self-identified as statemen should call the architects of one -party state to order.
They are exposing all of us and our children to needless danger.
And I do not write this piece as a coward.
I write as a patriot who, when all chips are down, will defend the unity of Nigerian state.
But will you or your children stand by our side on the battlefield?
Mo wi o!
