NPF labels Sowore a serial publishers of fabricated falsehood

We are waiting for court order , says Sowore

The Nigeria Police force (NPF) has defended actions taken against Nigerian activist, Omoyele Sowore, saying he has over time published a series of defamatory and derogatory claims based on fabricated falsehood against the person, office, immediate staff, members of the family of the Inspector General of Police, as well as the Nigeria Police Force.
The reaction followed the Justice J.O.E. Adeyemi-Ajayi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, granting an interim injunction restraining Sowore and Sahara Reporters from publishing further content concerning the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, his family, or his office, an assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bukola Kuti pending the hearing of a defamation suit.
In the order, the court specifically restrained the defendants from publishing content alleged to be defamatory and derogatory of Victor Egbetokun, son of the IGP, including a recent claim that he received N100 million from Anambra State security votes.
According to the order, the ruling followed an ex parte motion for an interim injunction filed by the claimant through counsel, Ayotunde Ogunleye, SAN. The motion was dated February 10 and filed on February 11, 2026.
The application was brought pursuant to Section 6(6) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), Order 30 Rule 3 of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (Civil Procedure) Rules 2025, and under the inherent jurisdiction of the court.
The court granted the interim injunction after hearing the applicant’s counsel, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
For the ACP, troubles began following a searing controversy engulfed the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) after Bukola Kuti who was rumoured to be the personal escort and romantic partner of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, skyrocketed to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), with many classifying it as a blatant favoritism and a breach of established promotion protocols.
The case has been adjourned to April 14, 2026, for further hearing.
Reacting to the ruling, spokesperson for the Nigeria Police, Benjamin Hundeyin said:“This step had to be taken because the defendants, over time, have published a series of defamatory and derogatory claims based on fabricated falsehood against the person, office, immediate staff, members of the family of the Inspector General of Police, as well as the Nigeria Police Force.”
On his part, Sowore, stated on X: “On Thursday, I went straight to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory after learning that a series of ex parte injunctions had been granted Justice J.O.E Adeyemi-Ajayi to the Illegal IG of Nigeria Police Force, Kayode Egbetokun, his PSO 2, “ACP” Bukola Kuti, and his son, Victor Egbetokun.
“Upon arrival, the Court Registrar advised that we formally apply for the Certified True Copies (CTC) of the orders. We immediately complied and also applied for the full records of proceedings.
“However, court officials later informed us that the judge’s handwritten notes were difficult to decipher and therefore could not yet be provided.
“Our objective is straightforward, to obtain the official records, review them thoroughly, and ensure that the judicial process does not shield incompetence or protect individuals from lawful scrutiny, regardless of their status.
We are still waiting for the court to discharge its duty and provide the requested documents.”
