Finance Minister, Wale Edun Suffers Stroke, Ruled Out Of World Bank, IMF Meetings

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy of Nigeria, Wale Edun has been ruled out of the 2025 World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual meetings.

The 2025 World Bank and IMF yearly meetings have been scheduled to be held in Washington D.C. from October 13.

Reports emerged that the Minister suffered a stroke and was flown abroad for medical treatment. However, the presidency only said he was indisposed.

‎   Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 2025 World Bank and IMF annual meetings.‎

‎Cardoso, who serves as Nigeria’s alternate governor at the Bretton Woods institutions, steps in for Finance Minister Wale Edun, who the presidency said is currently indisposed.

The update was disclosed in a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday in Abuja.

‎Also on the delegation is the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, alongside other key government officials.

According to the World Bank, major sessions include the Development Committee Plenary on October 16 and the IMF’s International Monetary and Financial Committee meeting on October 17, 2025.

‎Other key events will feature regional briefings, press conferences, and policy forums on global development, the world economy, and financial markets.
